Research X-Gaiters bargain
For activities
requiring an exposed boot sole, such as backcountry skiing
and mixed alpine mountaineering, the X-Gaiter offers a
highly innovative combination of features unequaled by
insulation slipped between dual fabric layers in the foot
section. You can leave it in for arctic cold or take it
out for spring conditions when you're just trying to keep
your boots dry. |

This open-cell
foam can also be replaced with the less compressible 3/8
in. closed cell-foam (included) which resists the crushing
of snowshoe or crampon straps. The rand system is also
unique. Instead of a cumbersome, ill-fitting rubber rand,
X-Gaiters are held to the boot welt by heavy-duty shock
cord that runs in a narrow Cordura tunnel. The shock cord
emerges from the tunnel at four points and criss-crosses
under the instep in an "X" . The elasticity
of the shock cord, coupled with the directions that it
pulls, allows the gaiter to seal snugly around the forward
part of even the most flexible boot. The shock cord's
length is easily changed, so you can control the tightness
of the gaiters on your boots, unlike rubber-randed gaiters.
The durability of the shock cord is higher than a rubber
rand, and it is field-maintainable should it be cut. Extra
security is provided by a nylon tab at the toe which secures
under crampon bails or ski bindings and the addition of
grommets along the welt which can be fitted with wire
or cord if wearing the gaiter alone. A welded D-ring on
the front top of the gaiter provides a convenient attachment
for a ski runaway leash.
